The setting sun casts warm evening light across the western escarpment of Blackdown Tableland National Park in Central Queensland. Rugged sandstone cliffs frame an expansive view across forested valleys and distant ridgelines. A golden band stretches along the horizon above the darkening landscape. Blue and purple shadows settle across the valleys, contrasting with the fading colours of the evening sky. Native eucalypts and hardy grasses grow along the rocky plateau edge. The viewpoint, approximately 800 metres above sea level, reveals the immense scale of the surrounding landscape.

Blackdown Tableland rises dramatically above the plains of Queensland's Central Highlands. Sandstone escarpments, gorges and forests support diverse native vegetation and wildlife.

The park lies within the traditional Country of the Ghungalu people. Their cultural connections to this landscape continue through places, stories and traditions associated with the tableland. The national park protects both significant natural landscapes and important Aboriginal cultural heritage.
