Cape Peron Coastal Walkway Robert Frew
A boardwalk winds through coastal dunes towards a lookout overlooking the waters of Shark Bay in François Peron National Park, Western Australia. Bathed in bright afternoon light, the elevated walkway provides a pathway through fragile coastal vegetation while offering expansive views across the bay. Wisps of cloud stretch dramatically across the sky, reflecting sunlight onto the calm ocean below. Native shrubs and dune grasses line the sandy landscape, helping to stabilise the dunes and protect the unique coastal ecosystem. The gentle curve of the boardwalk draws the eye towards the horizon, inviting visitors to experience the natural beauty and tranquillity of this remote coastal environment.
François Peron National Park forms part of the Shark Bay World Heritage Area, recognised internationally for its outstanding natural values, diverse marine habitats and spectacular coastal scenery. The region attracts visitors for wildlife viewing, walking, four-wheel driving, fishing and nature photography, with opportunities to observe dolphins, dugongs, turtles and numerous bird species.
Known as Wulyibidi in the Malgana language, the Peron Peninsula forms part of the traditional Country of the Malgana people, whose connection to these coastal landscapes extends back thousands of years.
