Kilkivan Great Horse Ride Main Street Parade, Queensland Richard Cox

Participants carry the Kilkivan Great Horse Ride banner along the main street of Kilkivan during the opening parade of one of Queensland's best-known equestrian festivals. Framed by spectators lining both sides of the street, the banner leads a long procession of horse riders stretching into the distance, highlighting the remarkable scale and popularity of the annual event. The elevated roadway and surrounding hills provide a scenic backdrop to the township, while families, photographers and visitors gather to celebrate a tradition that has become a highlight of the regional events calendar. Bright afternoon light and clear skies enhance the festive atmosphere, capturing the excitement and strong community spirit that define this uniquely Australian celebration of horses and bush heritage.

For more than 40 years, the Kilkivan Great Horse Ride has attracted thousands of riders and spectators to South-East Queensland. The three-day festival is renowned for its flagship 30-kilometre trail ride and colourful Saturday Main Street Parade, while also featuring barrel racing, heavy horse demonstrations, bush poetry, camp cooking, live entertainment and family-friendly activities. It remains one of Australia's premier horse festivals, celebrating horsemanship, rural traditions and the enduring spirit of country communities.
