Black and White Rural Road in the Liverpool Plains, NSW

Black and White Rural Road in the Liverpool Plains, NSW Katherine Hamilton

A straight unsealed rural road crosses the open agricultural landscape of the Liverpool Plains in New South Wales. Rendered in black and white, the image emphasises the road's texture and the expansive country surrounding it. Wheel tracks and shallow patches of water lead towards distant trees and low hills on the horizon. Broad paddocks extend across both sides of the road beneath an immense open sky. The sparse landscape and strong central perspective create a sense of distance, isolation and rural character. The Liverpool Plains is an important agricultural region of north-western New South Wales. Fertile soils support broadacre cropping, including wheat, barley, sorghum, pulses, oilseeds and cotton. Livestock production also contributes to the district's diverse farming economy. The Liverpool Plains forms part of the traditional Country of the Gomeroi people, who maintain enduring cultural connections with the region and its landscapes.
