Merlot Wine Grape Harvest at Sunrise in the Riverina, NSW

Merlot Wine Grape Harvest at Sunrise in the Riverina, NSW David Single

A grape harvester works through rows of Merlot wine grapes at sunrise in the Riverina region of New South Wales. The 19-second video captures the harvest from an elevated viewpoint on the roof of the grape harvester. Freshly harvested grapes move from the machine into a chaser bin travelling alongside the harvester. Early morning light creates warm tones across the vineyard and surrounding agricultural landscape. The camera then pans across the vineyard, revealing long, straight rows of grapevines extending into the distance. This unusual perspective provides a close view of mechanised grape harvesting and vineyard logistics during the busy vintage period.

The Riverina ranks among Australia's major wine grape producing regions. Its warm climate, irrigation infrastructure and productive soils support extensive vineyards around Griffith and surrounding districts. Mechanical harvesting allows growers to collect grapes efficiently during cooler conditions. Wine grape production contributes significantly to the Riverina's diverse agricultural economy.
