Yorkshire Terriers at Albany Dog Show, Western Australia

Yorkshire Terriers at Albany Dog Show, Western Australia Robert Frew

Two Yorkshire Terriers stand together inside an enclosure at the 2023 Albany Dog Show in Western Australia. One dog wears numerous colourful blue bows through its long coat, creating an unusual and eye-catching presentation. The second dog stands alongside with its characteristic long steel-blue and tan coat flowing towards the grass. The photograph captures a quieter moment away from active competition and highlights the extensive grooming associated with presenting long-coated breeds. Yorkshire Terriers develop fine, silky coats that can grow considerably when maintained for showing. Owners may use wraps, bands and other grooming techniques to protect and manage this long hair. Dog shows provide opportunities for owners and breeders to present different breeds while meeting other members of the canine community. Regional events in centres such as Albany also contribute to the social and recreational life of surrounding communities.
