Close up of cotton boll at sunset. A cotton boll is the rounded, mature fruit or seed pod of the cotton plant (genus Gossypium) that develops after flowering. After the flowers have dropped off, the pod matures to hold the fibers and about 20 to 40 seeds that are then harvested and ginned to separate the fiber for textile production.
