Duke of Orleans Bay Sunset Robert Frew
As the sun sinks below the horizon at Duke of Orleans Bay on Western Australia's south coast, the last light of the day paints the sky in soft shades of gold, orange and grey. Viewed from a coastal sand dune, the scene captures the quiet beauty of this remote landscape, where wind-shaped white sands roll gently towards low heathland and distant hills. Dramatic cloud formations stretch across the sky, reflecting the changing colours of sunset and creating a sense of depth and atmosphere. The contrast between the pale dunes and the warm glow of the fading light highlights the rugged natural beauty of this isolated coastal environment.
Located east of Esperance, Duke of Orleans Bay is renowned for its pristine beaches, excellent fishing, four-wheel-driving opportunities and access to some of the most spectacular coastal scenery in Australia. The area forms part of the traditional lands of the Wudjari Noongar people, whose connection to the coastline and surrounding landscapes extends back thousands of years. This image reflects the tranquillity, remoteness and enduring natural character of Western Australia's southern coast.
